The Great Indian Controversy

One of the problems of not watching television or skimming the newspaper is that one doesn't get to know about the controversies that plague the land. Now it seems pretty stupid to be posting stuff about things bygone.

For example, take the controversy about the two rupee coin with a square cross introduced at the beginning of this year. Not only haven't I seen on myself, I didn't hear anything about it from any of my mates. Now that I checked the wikipedia article on modern indian coins, I caught a reference to the controversy. It struck as quite funny that the references provided were....err....a bit on sided. Anyways, here is one of the references provided.

I especially enjoyed the following snippents...

....'Christianity-Coveting, Islam-embracing and Hindu-Hating in stance, posture, ideology, philosophy, programme and action.' //the policy of UPA

....Dr Manmohan Singh's Minority Appeasement Declaration (MAD)....

...Italian-led government...

Now I may not be an expert here...but this looks like a case of paranoia to me. Here is the hindu article on the coin.

Ahh...leave it...I am just glad that people didn't mistake it for an 'X' and start arguing that the coin should be free of the language of those treacherous Americans.

Nothing much...

Well....i am half blind now....;)

Being the proud owner of a pair of broken spectacles, I wander aimlessly in world filled to the core with visual input......Only I can manage to get my specs broken in the midst of my damn exams, on a saturday....so that shops won't be open on the next...I want to type in something funny after that....bit throbbing headache mode isnt exactly conducive to writing.....

Oh...and by the way, it seems that my blog's reading level is high school.....I wonder what sort of criterion they follow.....

Religious Extremism and Free Speech

Nowadays one gets to hear a lot about islamofascists or something like that.....especially from a bunch of Americans. It seems that some of them have such a narrow minded view of the world that they have classified the whole world into "conservative american christians" and a bunch of " "(insert random abusive word).

Here is an example of one of those guys....my knowledge about him comes from an opus cartoon and a google search which succeeded it. I am all for free speech and everything, but I think this is one of the borderline cases. What separates this guy and Hitler is that they hated different things and our friend here didn't have the resources to go on an anti-everybody else campaign.

Of course I may be completely wrong in my assessment of the guy, but anyone who sees "hidden homosexual innuendo" in Teletubbies is almost surely off his rocker...

Incidently, newspapers are so afraid of offending muslims that they didn't run two Opus cartoons. This one and the one after.

I don't blame them because during the whole Danish cartoon I saw first hand(I was in UAE then), the madness that erupted. Most shops had huge signs proclaiming that they didn't sell Danish products(even though the abysmal spelling and grammar did mar the overall effect slightly). Then there is the case of Salman Rushdie who was a victim of a virtual kill on sight order after he published Satanic Verses. Even the Catholic church erupted vehemously against the Da Vinci Code without realising that they increased the popularity of the book by giving it free publicity....

Thats one of the problems with this world, one has to be politically correct to the point of being paranoid, so as to not offend any of the other 6 billion folks in the world.........

BlogPane

I just came across this site while I was checking through my reader statistics. It is a free service that enables us to add a directory listing to our blog that lists all blogs from our college. It is kind of an RSS feed that keeps track of all alumni blogs.

It's a pretty awesome idea and I wish its perpetrators (hmm...that word makes them sound criminally inclined ;) the very best of luck.

Unfortunately I am a complete zero when it comes to Javascript. For example, I have no idea why the "SAVE NOW" button at the bottom of the screen is steadily increasing in size while I type.

So it might take me some time to figure out how the hell I am supposed to install the damn thing on my blog.............

Ahhh...the button has stopped expanding......

Update:
check out its homepage

here's a video that shows how to install it and voila! I have the plug-in on my blog as well...

New face of Patriotism

Hmm...i have just got a letter which implores all "patriotic" indians to change their orkut display pics to the Indian flag. As if it really means something...

You wanna be patriotic? Stop bad mouthing the country the other 364 days of the year....

Cool ad...

Check out this ad....

And I dare you to tell me it isn't awesome..........

Of Mars and the stars...

I receive all kinds of forwarded mails, ones about fake profiles being created, orkut being shut down, 101 ways to contact AIDS(you know, sitting in movies with infected blood poking you know where, terrorist on the loose with hypodermic syringes and all those stuff)...The latest one says something like Mars will be quite close to the earth in two weeks and something about this being a momentous occasion and all the hungama that goes along with it. I normally give a cursory glance and then delete it. But some folks, actually do some research into the matter. Here is another mail I got which rebutts the Mars mail.....

"""An email that has circulated during July and August for several years is again hitting inboxes in 2007. The message informs recipients that the planet Mars will be passing very close to Earth in August. While this information was valid back in 2003, it is totally inaccurate for 2007.

The year is not specifically mentioned in the message and a great many recipients therefore assume that the message refers to August, 2007. Another version of the message is circulating via SMS. Virtually identical (and equally misleading) messages were circulating back in July and August 2005 and again in July and August 2006. The events outlined in the message were more or less true back in 2003 although they were a little hyped even then. According to NASA, on August 27, 2003, Earth and Mars were the closest they have been for around 60,000 years. Mars was indeed a spectacular site in the night sky during several months of 2003.

However, this fact is not quite as earth shattering as you might think. A 2003 NASA article on the subject explains that:

Much has been made of the fact that the August 27th encounter with Mars is the closest in some 60,000 years. Neanderthals were the last to observe Mars so favorably placed. This is true. It's also a bit of hype. Mars and Earth have been almost this close many times in recent history.

In spite of the claims in the 2006 incarnation of the message, Mars was a far less than "spectacular" sight in the night sky. For much of 2006, it was on the far side of the sun from the Earth and was quite inconspicuous during July and August.

And, during July and August 2007, the view of Mars will again be far less than spectacular. Mars will make its closest approach to Earth in December 2007, but, even then, it will not be particularly bright. The SEDS website notes:

Mars will come into its Opposition on December 24, 2007 in constellation Gemini. Six days earlier, on December 18, 2007, the planet will have come to its closes distance to Earth during this apparation: 88.42 million km (55 million miles, or 0.58935 AU). This is not very close, as Mars will be quite close to its aphelion at the time of this opposition. As usual, this approach will offer another opportunity to launch spacecraft to the red planet: Nasa intends to send the Mars lander Phoenix.

The planet will be situated far north: At a northern declination of +26:46 at opposition time, Northern hemisphere observers will find it high in their meridian, and Southerners will find it low in the North. In this rather aphelic opposition, the planet will become only as bright as mag -1.64, and of diameter 15.88 arc seconds around that time.

At around 88 million kilometers, Mars will be a lot further away from Earth this year than it was back in 2003 when the distance between the planets was only around 56 million kilometers.

This message seems set to keep resurfacing every year and duping a whole new set of recipients into gazing rather fruitlessly at the night sky. But don't despair! Close encounters with Mars are not such uncommon events. The claim that "NO ONE ALIVE TODAY WILL EVER SEE THIS AGAIN!" is misleading. It is true that the next time Mars will be as close to Earth as it was in 2003 will be on August 28, 2287. In the mean time however, there will be plenty of other close approaches, so our children and our children's children are not likely to miss out altogether.

Perhaps by 2287 some of our descendants will be observing the close encounter from the Martian perspective"""

Hmm...interesting, I am not in a mood to do further research at this point. But I wonder; how many copies the the rebutting mail will I have to delete? Is it my responsibility to forward this mail to everone I know? And if I do so, will I turn into that category of people I hate?....

Only I can turn a single question of "whether or not I should forward a mail to others" into a life threatening mind boggling psychological paradox.......:)

Sigh....thats lyfe....

Test match predictions

I have decided to start making vague predictions about random occurences and then try to claim credit if any of them accidently become true. Some people actually get paid for this sort of work (I think they are called consultants).

If India doesn't bowl out the whole England team and the match ends up as a draw, England will grumble like hell that they should have won the first test and some sort of Duckworth Lewis system for test cricket should be established, whereby in such "obvious" situations.

Now lets see how that goes.

Blackle....again

I had scoffed about the concept of a darker google some time ago. Well hers's what the experts have to say about it.

Hmmm...this shows that clever advertising coupled with a bunch of folk who forward all sorts of crap to the whole world without verifying its authenticity can work wonders in this world.

President of India(part two)

Well...the President of India has been elected and everything. Some obscure person got the job. Anyways as I had previously written, I guess that it doesn matter who becomes the President as the post is more of a figurehead.

Don´t get me wrong, I am happy that Pratibha Patil got the job and she shines as an example to the world how far women have come in India. What saddens me is that she was elected as President due to the sole fact that she had the backing of the majority alliance. How many of those MPs or MLAs voted for her due to her qualities? Did it matter at all to them about who the candidate was; as long as they had the backing of the leaders? Did it matter who all voted for her, when it was the opinion of the UPA heads that really mattered?

Anyways...check out this as well....

Back to College

Finally, I have reached a place where the net is free (and reasonably fast too). All my grievances as to not being able to post due an abysmal connection are coming to an end. Say welcome to the days where I will start blaming my laziness as an excuse for not posting. Anyway, its always good to be back, assuming if you ignore the after effects of an eight hour bus trip and the amount of red tape lying ahead.

Instead of asking to pay all their dues at one place, the college requires us to scurry from place to place, enquiring about the dues, paying them, getting a receipt and so on and so forth.

What am I doing here??? My token number is 344 and they have called upto some 50 now.

Meanwhile, let me sit here in the LAN, posting.........

Its gonna be a long day............

Harry Potter!!!!!!!

hmmm...the new Harry Potter book will be released today...dunno if it has already released...I am afraid to check in case there are some spoilers.....

As far as predictions go, I am predicting that the Dark Lord will be defeated because Peter Pettigrew will get cold feet or something as he is in Harry' s debt(from the third book).

If this prediction becomes true, I am going to start an astrology service.....

Orkut is Blocked!!!

Wow...the other day I was wondering about the stupidity of my ISP and was thinking about ways in which it could degrade the quality of this stinking hellhole of a miserable experience that I like to call "Browsing the net using dial up with a paranoid Big Bro proxy watching over my back".

Then, I get a call from my good friend yesterday...Of course as I spend most of my time sleeping or reading, there was a 50% chance he couldn't reach me. When he finally did, he informed me about this incident, I wasn't well too shocked as it was already blocked by the UAE University server and I figured that the trend would surely catch on. Anyway, it seems that my poor buddy was "orkutting" so as to speak, when this happened. To quote him, "one sec I was there, next sec I was not".

Ouch.....

Well, I did some meticulous research (which is an euphemism for I did a quick Google search) and found out that somebody actually feared people were using the site to find sexual partners!!!

Now I don't deny that the claim is 100% false, but come on...whats next? Will they ban mobile phones coz guys and girls who aren't married will use it to talk with each other? Or destroy television sets coz they can be used to...I don't know, "culturally inappropriate material"?

On a funnier note, it seems orkut can still be accessed from the Media City and all iZones (the wireless hotspots in UAE are called iZones). I smell a conspiracy here, Etisalat is tired of its new rival Du, slowly but surely taking a good chunk out of the mobile services sector. So, I think it is trying to force more and more people to take other costlier services so that they can maintain their exorbitant profits.

Damn...I am in a bad mood now....

Whoopsidaisy....

Hmm...its been a really long time...got sidetracked by my flourishing schedule....

Needless to say...I'll be back...(Terminator Style)...

err..I meant to say, I am back....

Twitter..."the newest threat to my morals"

So...I was reading a blog post about it....and decided to check in out. And guess what?....It is blocked!!!So twitter is the latest additions to the bunch of normal sites blocked for pedantic reasons in the UAE. This list includes MySpace and Flickr. I had allude to this phenomenon in a previous post of mine.....

DAMN these self righteous pains in the ass who think they can regulate my freaking corrupted morals!!!!!!

Telephone Helplines....

I found this link and was instantly reminded about my experience with the Etisalat hotline, or whatever they call it. Tired of the sweet voice telling me that all their customer representatives or whatever they are called were busy with other calls....I decided to call them at 4 am in the morning. Guess what...I heard the same message.

Hmm...wonder what the customer whatevers were busy with at 4 am....anyway...to be fair, once you get through to them, they are pretty helpful and readily solve all our concerns.

Censors....are you seeing this?...

Uncyclopedia.....this site never fails to amaze me.

Here is their article on censorship. This article...actually is quite a rarity among uncyclopedian articles in such a sense that it makes a hell lot of sense and it oddly resembles what I feel...

Before signing off...here are two statements I saw somewhere in uncyclopedia...

"Time lies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana."

"Outside of a dog, books are man's best friends. Inside of a dog, its too dark to read."

Damn....thats clever!!!!!!!!

Amnesia is gRIPPING me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Few days ago, I was pondering about a few things, origin of life, are we alone in the universe, climate in alain, harry potter,...to mention a few....when my train of thought derailed and I started thinking about myself. I started thinking about my past and it suddenly struck me that, with the exception of some major events and a few many minor ones, I couldn't remember a huge chunk of my past.

Take my first school(OOEHS Al Ain)...I remember my First walk down its corridor...then nothing...I remember a few isolated incidents here and there; but on the whole I could remember very less from my first school. My second and third schools(in India) are much better...memory wise. I can remember most of the surroundings. How I cycled my way to school. The state of the roads...my friends. I remember most of their faces, but so few names. In some cases, I just remember their presence...their existence...rather than something specific about them.

Coming to my last school(ISA Al Ain)...countless incidents happened there. But I cannot recall most of them. Whenever I meet my ex-classmates, we sit and reminisce about the good old days. Sigh...its like I'm paranoid, looking over my back, its like a whirlwind inside of my head it like I cant s.....(damn...got sidetracked by some Linkin Park lyrics that popped up in my head)...nyways I forgot what I was gonna say.

The point is that I feel I am losing a valuable part of my life, as new friends, new experiences, and other things of the sort fill my life. I think I should get one of those Braincaps or something that is mentioned in one of the books in the Odessey quartet...the book's name eludes me now...Hmmm...or maybe I should get a digital camera and start snapping everything in sight...nyways I have convinced my parents.
Now the search begins.................

Incidentally, how did the post start and see where it reached....I should learn to focus.....

Satan...who art thou??????

I have always felt that the concept of Satan is flawed. This so called "being" is supposed to punish all sinners by condemning them to damnation (in a moderately warm place which I believe is called Hell), an eternal one too. But it is also said that Satan is kinda like an anti-God. So, logically the guy should try to do everything in such a way that opposes God. So, shouldn't he reward those who follow him? I mean loyalty should be rewarded everywhere, right? So it implies that Satan must work for God in order the notions we have to be right. But I am sure that this will be vehemently denied by all.

Or I am right in thinking that all religions evolved to keep the barbaric tendencies of humans in check, while actively making sure that no one questions these beliefs? I say this because most people(as far as I know) lead moderately decent lives in fear of some divine retribution.

Whenever I try to ask devout believers in any religion about these ideas, the retort is always somehing like the (insert name of holy book) is right because it says so in the (insert the same holy book).

To me, that answer is not in any way convincing. But maybe, such matters may transcend all logic and require blind belief. I don't claim to be infallible or anything. These arguments might even be a result of my ignorance as well. In which case I would like "better informed" people to correct me.

This post didn't go quite the way that I intended. Got sidetracked in between. Ahh well, what the heck. I can't type anywhere as fast as my thoughts. It is ironic that while I was typing this (I normally type my posts separately and then upload them whenever I get time) I was listening to some devotional song on TV. Also, in spite of all my questions and ideas, whenever there is a crisis or the opposite, I call upon God for help, thanks or whatever the situation requires. Ahh, well...maybe I should proud of the fact that I am continuing the great tradition of humanity in being an exemplary hypocrite.

Sigh, thats lyfe.

Also...see this...

\Ahh...people quote Wikipedia...I quote Uncylopedia..........

Blackle is nothing but a black version of google.

"A few months ago, TreeHugger Mark Ontkush wrote a post on his blog
EcoIron titled Black Google Would Save 750 Megawatt-hours a Year. The
post lays out the following train of thought. "An all white web page
uses about 74 watts to display, while an all black page uses only 59
watts." Google, which has a white background and gets about "200 million
queries a day" could reduce global energy use by 750 Megawatt-hours a
year by simply changing the color of its homepage to black.
In response to this post a black version of Google emerged called
Blackle.com. According to Blackle's homepage at publication time,
4,408.917 Watt hours have been saved by . Nice ideas. But how does the
search measure up? Very well indeed. Give it a whirl yourself and start
saving energy one search at a time. :: Blackle.com: 1

Wow. I seem to remember some quote quote in this regard. "68% of all statistics are made up...including this one." I think it was Scott Adams.

Anyway, even if the statistics were right, there are a lot of things that could save a considerable amount of power. I don't know, something like using CFL lamps or switching off electrical appliances when it isn't used (it can be as simple as swithching off the fan or light). These and more could save much more power than using 'black version' of Google.

Fun Fact: My wikipedia search for CFL redirected to the wiki page on the Canadian Football League.

The Great (am)Bush

Nowadays all we can see are rants about how Mr. Bush is stupid, idiotic, a general pain in the ass, so on and so forth. Even yours truly occasionally indulges in what seems to be a global pastime. But what really pisses me off is that most Americans indulge in this sort of sentiment as well....

Now, I am not trying to endorse Bush or anything, but how can the American folks in general voice such outrage against this guy when they are the ones that elected him in the first place? I can understand if this was his first term. But for heaven's sake, this guy was re-elected. These might be the words of an ignorant guy, but still...how the HELL did he get re-elected?

This guy's popularity rating is lower than the temperature in Alaska(poor joke...sorry) and it scares the crap out of me that he still holds the power to autonomously control(i cannot describe the power of vetoing the senate in any other words) the most damn powerful country in this damn world. One who sees the UN fit for imposing sanctions on other countries while it ignores it in other matters (namely, Kyoto treaty, Iraq war, ...hmmm...can't think of more). I don't really think that any democratic system should have a position which can override a sizeable portion of the elected members. The fact that a person who has lost all credibility is able to do this...is wrong.

Ahh...well....who am I to talk about these things, but I don't want to just simply sit watching or hearing all this crap. Well, that might explain why I am typing this in the middle of the night to post it on an obscure blog....

As for the title, I am not that creative at 4 in the morning...hmmm...excuses, excuses....

18 Ave de Suffren Paris, 75740 France

I am just sick and tired of people making a big fuss about Paris Hilton. I don't know what people find so alluring about her.Is it the fact that she is a millionaire heiress or her looks(?) or (god forbid) her songs? Or the fact that she had no qualms in distributing...err...home movies(?).

Anyway, everything she or does makes the news. I can't comprehend the fact that most people have lives so mundane that they have to generate excitement by being up to date about their favourite celebs' exploits. It pains me to think that some folks might actually consider her to be a role model.

Coming back to Paris Hilton. Now it seems the latest buzz is about her jail sentence. Well, I have no idea what her crime was, but I don't think it matters to the general public. A huge fuss is being made by the media about everything, from what she plans to do in jail, to her new surroundings, to her to be jail mate.

Hmm..I am in the mood for predictions. I predict that her cellmate is gonna write a book that outlines her memoirs about sharing the same space as Paris Hilton. This might also lead to reality shows being made, where Paris Hilton lives with other people in extremely cramped spaces(a spinoff of her previous reality show) and the so called drama that will follow. Ahh...but today's world is shaped in such a way that I am sure that it would be a huge hit.

Networks...I hope you get this idea somehow so that I can brag about how I saw it all coming. Who knows...I may even decide to start my own religion...or atleast a psychic helpline...

But that is a discussion for another day.

Oh yeah, if anyone was wondering what the address above signifies....Well it points to The Paris Hilton(the hotel).....

April 15, 2007 or GSK day

On this day...I am sure that a hell lot of stuff must have happened. But which piece of news was splattered all over our news channels(I mean Indian of course)? The now infamous Gere-Shilpa Kiss (or GSK in short). I can't understand the furore that was created due to this silly incident. It seems that there are hordes of mindless people just waiting for something small to happen and then unleash their violence on public property. On the other hand, we have our lovely Shiv Sainiks who have justified their acts of violence by a statement that this incident goes against our "Indian culture". Hmm...so I guess, that according to them, destroying public property, unnecessary violence etc. showcases our "culture" pretty aptly.

Yeah RIGHT!!!

On a lighter note.....here is a pretty funny article on the same topic.

(Sigh...I know its a bit too late to discuss this, but hey, I strongly feel that our media and our all these "caretakes of Indian culture" have got their priorities wrong)

Mr./Ms./Mrs "I'm always right"

I have officially lost my faith in humanity.....well atleast, a sizeable portion of it. Why?...read this.

Why does it have to be that one of the most powerful countries in the world has to have so many people with so less tolerance for anything they don't believe in?

Well, I don't think it's fair to judge people by what they post, but some of this stuff is just unbelievable. Anyway, on this occasion I recall a quote from Dilbert. It goes something like, "Never argue with idiots, they drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience."

Anyway here's the link to the Dilbert blog (if you don't read it already).

License plate no '5' (try to rhyme it with mambo no. 5)

(heard this in the news, can't find any corresponding news article...but still searching...)

A businessman recently paid Dh. 7 crores (around 80 million rupees) to get the license plate number '5'. Now I don't know about you folks, but I think that is a hell lot of money to spend on something to show off. I for one, can't understand the logic behind wanting small numbers on license plates. Surely most people deem it to be a status symbol and all that, but, isn't it pure vanity? After all this, I surely hope that some part of that sum went to charity..

Well, it would certainly simply certain situations....

Officer : "Do you remember the license number of the car that (insert random offense)?"

Witness : "Well yes, actually there wasn't much to remember. The number was '5'.."

(and the questioning will go on something like that...)

I personally think it's nice to have so much money that you can afford to spend it in which ever way you seem fancy. But isn't the guy just painting a huge bulls-eye on himself (in the eyes of criminals)?...

Hmm...now thats something to ponder on....

P.S. I wanted a portable hard disk. If anyone has too much money to spend, let me know. I don't suppose anybody wants to get me one for free...Anyone having too much money?...

President of India

All around India, meetings are going on about who is to be the next President. The fact that that the President is more of a symbolic head, rather than the ultimate figure of power like the one in US, makes the candidate more of the academic type. Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam is an extraordinary person and I admire his talks and attitude. I consider myself lucky to have seen him face to face and heard his words live. They are truly inspiring and listening to them aroused in me an immense feeling of patriotism that has never been replicated before or thereafter in my mind.

But the question remains....how many of us are truly willing to act like he says? For every hundred people that listen to him, how many sincerely try to make a difference? I don't want to blame anyone or anything, but I feel that most people give his talks the same kind of attention as, lets say a moral science class.

Here, I remember the words of one of my English teachers. The gist of it was, as a President is just a figurehead, why should one of the best minds of India be wasted on that position? Indeed, Indian research has lost five years worth of brilliance and sheer genius as Dr. Abdul Kalam's services has been lost.

Any comments?....

Free will...

I was thinking about the various attributes one ascribe to God. God has to be omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient. Leave the first two attributes, take omniscience, i.e. God should be all knowing. So basically God knows what I will do tomorrow or on any give day. So, can I justify my actions on the premise that God knew this would happen and I was simply a puppet in God's hands???

Wonder how other people feel about it....

Hmm...I wonder, can criminal give a "this was my fate, I couldn't stop it" kinda plea...

Me, my dial up connection and my internet service provider...

Hmmm... I was wondering why I hadn't posted much after my initial flurry of posts. Is it because I'm just plain lazy or what? It is not as if I didn't go online afterwards, its just that I haven't been able to connect to this site due to the amazing net connection I have at home. It takes an insane amount of time to post anything on the blog.

I have a dial up connection which finds new methods to piss me off with amazing consistency on a regular basis. Now I know that sounds redundant, but I ain't not gonna change. ;)

Anyways, at present I am in UAE where everything is regulated pretty strictly. Contrary to popular belief there is a pretty ok (as in moderately below the so called 'normal' level) freedom of speech. Yeah, you ca say anything you want as long as it doesn't offend their 'values' in any way and of course, you shouldn't complain about the rulers. It sounds paradoxical, but all this amounts to "You can say anything you want, as long as it isn't directed against us."

Oops, went off track there. I wanted to talk more about my ISP. As most countries in the Middle East, there is a proxy server which blocks all sites that are not " consistent with their social, moral and political values" or some other bull. Note the word 'political'. So, it means that it will block alternate political views as well. Ahh...I cannot comment on that because truly I don't care about what these folks think.

Damn!!! Went off track again!!! What I wanted to point out was among the myriad of websites they have blocked, Flickr.com is blocked. Now most net savvy people know the website in question and recognise it to be Yahoo's photo sharing website. It is used widely all over the world and I was stumped as to why the damn site was blocked. I promptly sent an email to them, highlighting the fact that I didn't understand how this site could go against their so called 'cultural' and 'moral' values (I believe these were the actual words I used). Unfortunately, I didn't take into account the fact that they might not appreciate or understand the sarcasm. I sent that email in a moment of frustration and I didn't think much about it afterwards.

Imagine my surprise when I got a reply the very next day...I will paste the letter here...

This letter just cracked me up. Damn, the reason just cracked me up. Anyways, I understood that there is no use trying to convince people who have stuffed their ears with cotton. But I appreciate the promptness of their reply though... And the reply was pretty professional. ;)

Sigh...thats lyfe...

P.S. I found that Flickr is not blocked by the UAE University. I was able to access Flickr from their library.

Dullest Blog

I came across this website recently. It claims to be the dullest blog in the world. I can't argue with that. I think it is pretty good though. So do a LOT of people, judging by the comments section.

I believe that after a certain limit, dull stuff become interesting, uncool stuff become cool and stupid things start making sense...

Don't believe me? Have you heard Crazy Frog?....Now you got what I mean.

Untitled

I don't know anyone who has purposed named something 'Untitled'. So I shall claim a first there, until someone corrects my ignorance. I was gonna post something interesting, but sitting here in front of the comp, my mind is a blank slate . I normally have lots of cool and stupid (well, mostly stupid) thoughts running through my mind. I feel that I should write it down somewhere, but I become lost in thought and neglect the writing part. Inevitably, I forget that line of thought and then it's lost.

Now why am I posting all this?...Nope, I have absolutely no idea....

But, as I like to say....why NOT?........

First Post

Well...I finally started a blog; which is quite suprising when I remember that I've wanted to be a blogger for a pretty long time. I had actually planned to start a blog last year. Alas, it was meant to be. I never realised that some aspects of college life would take up a such huge amount of time, that all my free time was spent doing less mundane stuff like sleeping, sleeping, reading and wiki-ing.... (Note:This is another way of saying that I am pretty lazy and pretty creative, when it comes to ways to waste time efficiently-hmmm..now is that a paradox). Anyway, after a really long period of proscastination, I have started gaining momentum in my journey to maintain a blog.

When I try to analyse why I wanted to immediately start a blog, a multitude of possible reasons pop up in my mind. To Do I want to achieve fame? Do I want to amass a huge fortune online? Do I want to lash out agains social injustice and expose the wrong doings of our society? Or do I want an outlet for the insane amount of nonsense that pops into my mind?

Or is it because I have a lot of chores to do and I am just looking for a way to avoid work?......
